Is Ford still building the Crown Victoria for Police Cruisers only?

If not I wonder what Cop cars will use once their Ford Crown Vics wear out?Is Ford still building the Crown Victoria for Police Cruisers only?
the crown vic has been produced from 1955-present, 1992-present for law enforcement agencies.
no they are no longer making crown vics as police interceptors the new vehicles they are using are the new 2011 ford explorer and i have no clue of the exact model of the sedan version but heres the ford website for their police vehicles

http://www.fordvehicles.com/fordpolicein鈥?/a>Is Ford still building the Crown Victoria for Police Cruisers only?
i don't really think so. i saw that the new police cruisers are a Ford Tauraus now. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http鈥?/a>
no, the only cars they are offering to law enforcement from now on are a modified explorer and turbo chargerd taurus

(which I've heard is still better than the new caprice, lol)Is Ford still building the Crown Victoria for Police Cruisers only?
No they are not making the crown vic but they are still sticking with ford HIP HIP HURRY HIP HIP HURRY because that means dodge+chevy=garbage
at this point they have moved on to the new Charger.

Please I need Help! Legal issue with used Car Warranty?? ?

I bought a used car on the 5 aug. I had it home 2 days when it broke down. I paid 750$ To get it towed and the starter motor fixed, Had it home I day and now it's blown up.

My Dad and Aunt have both bought vehicles from the same dealer and not had any problems with them, when I bought the car he gave me the receipt to sign and it had ticked at the bottom no warranty, he said all our cars are sold like this.

I have just searched consumer affairs website and it states is you buy a car from a licensed motor trader they have to give you a statutory 5000k or 3 month warranty on used cars less than 10yrs old and 160,000ks my car is a 2002 hyundai with 109,000ks on it.

Please help I am a single mum I can't afford to pay for a motor rebuild as it is I had to borrow the money for the towing and the starter.

Is the receipt I signed legal? If the warranty there meant to give is statutory?

I'm in Victoria, Australia

Any positive advise would be a god-send

I'm gutted and broke!

J Please I need Help! Legal issue with used Car Warranty?? ?
If the law says he has to give you a warranty, then the receipt is not legal. Call the consumer affairs people to find out for sure. Then go to the dealer and tell him you know the law is with you. He might be willing to deal with you instead of spending a day in court because if he is not, that's what you'd have to do, sue him in small claims court. Please I need Help! Legal issue with used Car Warranty?? ?
If the signerature was a contract of some sort, in America that's bad news. But if you know all that information take it down their and tell them. If not, maybe get a court appointed lawyer or call a lawyer and ask if you have the legal right away. That's awfully rediculous it breaks after 3 days and I think they're fully liable for it. I don't know much about cars mate, but I do know that business is business and if what you say is law in Aus, then take that to them and tell them they better just get off there **** n' do something about it.

ALSO check the contract you originally signed when you got the cart and read over that real good, make sure that there wasn't some clause you missed.

How do police cars get selected?

Most are Crown Victoria, but in Ontario I see Dodge Chargers and other ones. How does one police officer get to drive a Charger, and another a Victoria? Can a police officer use his own vehicle to get made into a car?How do police cars get selected?
good cars goes to the left line the weak cars go to the right line never to be seen againHow do police cars get selected?
Police officers cannot get their own personal vehicles made into police cars. It depends on the deal that a certain car maker gives the police dept. It can change each year. Many of our cars are Chevys now, but we just got a new contract with Ford to get new Crown Vics. How do police cars get selected?
Different police agencies across the U.S. and Canada have different commitee's that pick the cars. Most of the police agencies consider price and interior room as the major factors. Police cars need a roomy interior (dash area) that will put all the equiptment in easy reach of the driver. e.g. radios, MDT (computer), siren and lights. Unfortunely many police agencies do not consider safety as a high priority when choosing cars. The highway patrol cars are normally picked by speed and price. Many California police agencies order cars with high performance suspension, transmissions and engines. Arizona uses a lot of cars that they take from criminals, so they have many different types of polices cars and colors. Hard to spot also. lol

No, they cant use their own cars to be made into police cars. They have to be D.O.T. approved emergency vehicles.

I hope this helped.
We have all Crown Vics and one Charger in my district. The newer cars are assigned to beats, the beat officer gets that car. We have a number of older cars that are relief cars, if a beat car isn't available they get one of those. I have never seen a department where officers get to use their own cars but a large SO in New Mexico used to let officers choose their take-home car from a number of makes and models, and they received a monthly allocation to make the car payment. My department lets motor officers do something similar and they have Harley's, Honda's and BMW's.

  • Is a crown victoria a good car?

for my first car(i do not have one yet and am in high school) i was thinking about getting a used Ford Crown Victoria. i was wondering if anyone had any opinions on them and if they get good mileage, how well they hold up, how safe they are(i know that is kind of a weird question) and if you could tell me any other things about them? I am thinking about getting one because i assume they are safe, they are cheap to buy, and i live close to this place that sells old crown vics and other old police cars. i am not going to put lights or use it to impersonate police, so i was wondering if it would be a good first car or not? thanks! Is a crown victoria a good car?
Theyre alright as long as youre not getting one from someone who treated it like a race car. They handle fairly well, its all about how you feel in it.Is a crown victoria a good car?
My Crown Vic has 280,000 miles on it and it's still going strong. I had to replace the radiator and a crossmember. In ten years, that's the only repairs. I'm driving mine til it drops. Is a crown victoria a good car?
    no

How come the police version of the Ford Crown Victoria are taxi's? (See below)?

So I was in Chicago yesterday and I notcied a taxi. It was a ford crown victoria. I noticed the "Police interceptor" badge on the rear of the taxi. Then I saw that lightbulb on the drivers side thats above the rearview mirror. Why would a taxi have one of those lights on their cars that police use for finding fleeing-foot suspects? COuld this have been a donated car that was previously a taxi? How come the police version of the Ford Crown Victoria are taxi's? (See below)?
Because the Police Interceptors are built with heavy duty components (suspension, engine, cooling, etc.). Rather than having Ford build a separate model for taxi service, they just used PI models. I don't think the spotlights are really used, they just come on the PI models.
Tough car, easy to fix, tons of room, and a used Police car, maybe only 2 years old, are relatively cheap. Plus, at Police auctions, you can buy ten or fifteen of them at once. How come the police version of the Ford Crown Victoria are taxi's? (See below)?
Because Police Departments only use their cars for so long. Then they are auctioned off. Taxi companies like to buy them because they... Are cheap,Very Reliable, and they know the previous owner most likely followed the maintenance schedule.
probably retired car sold at auction and taxi co bought itHow come the police version of the Ford Crown Victoria are taxi's? (See below)?
ok what alot of ppl dont know is cab co. the drivers and there cars are contracted out. like take for instance yellow cab as long as my car is some what economic i can be contracted to be a driver for them. when i left houston tx my cab to the airport was was a yellow cab it was a chrysler 300c on 24's with flip down tv's and a sound system. i said all that cuz almost any car can be a cab

Considering buying a used police car, Crown Vic, any suggestions?

Our county is doing an auction and sellign a bunch of Crown Victoria's. So, I was wondering if it is good or bad to own an ex-police car?

Like, do they stay in good shape due to constant maintenance, or are they in bad shape from being driven hard?

I've always heard that police cars are "supercharged" and have the best parts inside of them, is that true?

How much would you be willing to pay for a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria with 97k miles on it?Considering buying a used police car, Crown Vic, any suggestions?
well the crown vic is a very popular car with the Taxi guys in particular because the brakes , front end, and suspension are all heavy duty , which is perfect for todaysd roads. Many people buy them for a grand to 1800 or so depending on mileage and drive them for awhile or resell them or both.

The engine and tranny are good and strong its not a supercharged engine, but it is a solid v8 with good power and with the heavy duty suspension and some good eagle gt plus 4 tires they handle great in the highway.

It all depends on what you want, there are hundreds of thousands of them out there so they are time tested and police approved for durability and long service life.Considering buying a used police car, Crown Vic, any suggestions?
Good solid car - Lottsa trunk room, decent mileage, more then enough power to get you into big trouble, easy to work on %26amp; spare parts under every tree. BUT !! No supercharger. California tried that years ago, but they put them on well used cars...Still didn't turn-out bad, just not great. A fairly current Crown Vic will have around 240 or a bit better hp, plus a bit more rear gear then the civilian version, %26amp; a bit more stall in the torque converted. All that equals quite nice acceleration.Considering buying a used police car, Crown Vic, any suggestions?
Well A they are a tank if you get in a accident you are golden. I would pay any where from 1000 to 1400 or so not that new if it has 97k it is used

My car is ford crown victoria 2007 and the the trunk is not open by using the remote control.. Please help?

My car is ford crown victoria 2007 and the the trunk is not open by using the remote control .. All doors are working fine.

Please help?My car is ford crown victoria 2007 and the the trunk is not open by using the remote control.. Please help?
I'm not familiar w/ Fords, however, many makes feature a "Valet switch", it allows the items to stay "safe" in your trunk if you drop off the car to someone. Its normally a button you push on/off. Maybe you have one %26amp; unknowingly engaged it? Check in your glove box and/or center console. My car is ford crown victoria 2007 and the the trunk is not open by using the remote control.. Please help?
The most common problem with any electrical accessory is bad connections, either at the actuator that activates the trunk latch or the switch.

First check your fuse panel to be sure you haven't blown a fuse. The actuator itself can be eliminated simply by using a jumper wire to connect it to a known source of power to see if it operates as it should.

Then with a meter, check to see that you have power at the switch as well as the actuator. If you don't have power at the switch then the problem likely lies between it and the fuse panel. If there is power at the switch but none at the actuator start with the connections on the switch then the actuator itself. Remove each connection and clean both the male and female ends of each then reattach. Don't overlook the grounding connections too.

Electrical problems like this are sometimes very difficult to locate but taking your time and following the path of the current from the panel through every component is the only way to find where the problem lies.

Used Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor?

Hi, I've always wanted to get a used Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor once I get my license, but right now I know that Ford had discontinued the Crown Victoria Police Interceptor so I am a little worried if they might be rare once I turn 15 and 9 months. As of now I am 13 ( I am turning 14 in March) and I wanted to know, will I be able to get my dream car? Almost every week I check on ebay to look at the CVPI's but they are gone so fast. Will 2013 have any Crown Victoria's left. I always wanted an all black one with black rims and a spot light. Thanks.Used Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor?
Start saving up. I bought one that was 10 years old for $3,000 (probably overpaid). 5 or 6 years old will probably be around $5,000-$6,000. Stick to state highway patrol cars, which tend to be better maintained, and avoid local departments, which abuse their cars. If the car smells like a dog, it was a K-9 unit and the smell will never go away. If the car has carpeted floors instead of plastic, it was probably an administrative car and used more gently. I would buy straight from a department; I bought mine from a private owner and spent $1800 on the steering %26amp; brakes the first year I owned it.

Someone needs to tell you this: if you're a male between the ages of 16 and 60, you're going to attract unwanted attention from cops if you drive a Crown Victoria, regardless of the trim package. If you're white, the average cop thinks you're a police impersonator, and if you're black or latino, he thinks you're a drug dealer or gang member. I'm sorry but that's just the way it is. I'm white and I've been pulled over once and checked out, asked if I had guns, police badges, etc.

If you really love Ford's panther platform, get a Mercury Grand Marquis or a Lincoln Town Car. Much more luxurious and if you don't pimp it out with big chrome wheels and tinted windows, the cops will likely leave you alone.
yes but they'll be used pretty good. The general problem is most ex police interceptors have all ready been beat to hell, so if you get one make sure you have a good reserve of $$$$ to fix/replace the engine and everything if/when it finally falls apartUsed Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor?
You do know that if it is an ex-police car, they are required to remove the special chip in the computer.

They aren't worth buying but if that's what you want, go for it when you get older!
these cars are a dime a dozen and plentiful on the used car market

dont worry, a nice one will be ready for you to buy when its time, you will just need to look for itUsed Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor?
You're 13/14, so in two years or so, you'll be ready....So, look at the 3 to 4 year old P71's on e-bay...Not a bad selection !!
    Go online
Don't worry, there are hundreds of thousands of these cars around, it will be easy to find one at any time in the foreseeable future. If you can't get a P71 then you can opt for a civy model with the Handling/Performance Package. The HPP has most of the Interceptor bits, like dual exhaust, HD torque converter, 3.27 gears, transmission cooler, HD suspension ,etc.

Contrary to popular belief there is no special "chip" or anything. The P71's have the same amount of power as the Civy HPP model. The P71 does have the governor raised to about 130 MPH Vs. 107 for the civy model, because the P71 has a composite driveshaft and the civy model has a standard steel driveshaft that tends to vibrate alot at triple digit speeds.

  • Why are they discontinuing production of the crown victoria?

even though there like the most reliable and most longest lasting cars out there and there the number one car used by law enforcement and cab company'sWhy are they discontinuing production of the crown victoria?
Ford has not sold the Crown Vic to consumers since 2007, but will continue to produce the cars as fleet vehicles until 2011. Although the Crown Victoria is on its way out, Ford is committed to remaining an integral part of America鈥檚 police force.Ford鈥檚 major offer to the nation鈥檚 police fleets has been the new Taurus sedan. While it may seem like an excellent opportunity for an upgrade, the Taurus and other newer cars lack some of the features that made the Crown Victoria so effective. Why are they discontinuing production of the crown victoria?
Because a car model can't be made just to be a fleet car, it has to sell on the open market as well, otherwise it's not very cost effective. Which is why the new PI is a modified taurus.

Besides crown vics are practically only driven by the authorities and the aging these days, they're not really considered a really cool car. Plus w/ the focus more on MPG these days, the big V8's that vics usually have don't really stand a chance....also one of the reasons why the best engine the new cop taurus has is a twin turbo V6.Why are they discontinuing production of the crown victoria?
In the present alleged hysteria of global warming and the international "go green" mentality, I'm afraid the full frame, rear wheel drive vehicle is seen in rather a poor position to compete with the newer hybrids and smaller, light weight eco-boxes. The best selling SUV on the planet will soon be shedding its frame for a unit body construction.

I guess we just better get used to it - the land yachts of days gone by are a thing of the past.

I have a 2003 Crown Vict that used to be a police car that has holes in the top where the sirens used to be?

Like I said I have a 2003 Ford Crown Victoria that was once a Police car and it has holes on the top where the sirens used to be.

    My questions are these.

What happens if I never get this fixed?

How will rain or snow affect it?

Where could I go to get this fixed?

    How much would it cost?

And is there a way that I could fix it myself and have it look nice?

I am looking for people who know what they are talking about.

Please Help.I have a 2003 Crown Vict that used to be a police car that has holes in the top where the sirens used to be?
there really is nothing cheap that you can do that will look nice although if you can do simple sheet metal work you could make a small patch and epoxy in place and then paint it with a spray can of your color code. at least the raindrops will stop falling on your head. a body shop visit will probably cost a couple hundred dollars and if you do nothing , it will rust and leak inside mold the carpet maybe cause a short circuit good luck those police crown vics are fun to drive.
Go to a body shop they can tell you all you need to knowI have a 2003 Crown Vict that used to be a police car that has holes in the top where the sirens used to be?
The only way it will look nice is to have an auto body shop weld the holes shut, then fill the reapair with body plastic, work it smooth, then paint the complete top! This type of job is not easy for the average person to do. there are extenuating circumstances that have to be addressed, before any filling and painting can take place. Take it to an auto body shop, or several and get estimates for the job!

Oh, yes, if you aren't "picky" just tear off small pieces of duct tape, and stick them over the holes. Or, you can buy small rolls of aluminum sticky tape, to cover the holes, too. It might last longer than duct tape, and you can paint over it, if you scuff it with a scuff pad first. As for cost-you'll have to decide how much you want to pay for fixing it right, or cheaply! If the car has over a hundred thousand miles on it, i'd go for the aluminum sticky tape and touch-up paint!

    Rustyj

PS: If you do nothing, the rain and snow and dirt, bugs, caterpillars, bees, flies or anything will come in and make nests, or make the car smell musty from being damp all the time, from rain!
glue quarters over the holes and grind them down and paint itI have a 2003 Crown Vict that used to be a police car that has holes in the top where the sirens used to be?
I had a similar problem with my Dodge Diplomat police car. I smoothed and rounded the edges of the circular holes on the roof and bought rubber plugs of the appropriate size. I used the kind that are flat on the top so when the plugs are pushed into place, the repair is not that noticeable. The plugs have never leaked.
Make sure you go to a GOOD body shop and also have them get all moisture out. Moisture will cause rust from the inside and ruin your headliner.
measure the holes and go to the parts store and tell them you want rubber grommets that size put a little oil on them and they should pop right in and wa-la your holes are fixed and its a neat job also

Can i used these wheels on my crown victoria?

i got a 00 police package with original 16 inch black steel wheels with a hubcap.

In 06 they put 17 inch standard wheels on the police package. I want to buy the 17 inch ones.

Some people say they will not fit but its the same car. Some say you may damage the wheel bearings. One guy said they may not sit right in the wheelwells sticking out.

Whats the deal? What you think?

thanksCan i used these wheels on my crown victoria?
For the Grand Marquis/Crown Victoria in 2003 they changed the wheel spacing and kept the same bolt pattern. The 17 inch wheels will bolt on, but they will be sticking out. I know somebody that has a 2004 with wheels on from a 2000-2002 Grand Marquis and they stick out. The guys son had a 2000 and he had extra wheels so is using up the wheels. Can i used these wheels on my crown victoria?
Won't fit. The suspension was changed starting in '03 and the wheels have a different offset, altho the bolt pattern stayed unchanged.

$2800 for a 2004 Crown Victoria with 128k miles? Is it a good deal?

It seems pretty good, but there is a crack in the windshield. It's a retired police interceptor. I'm very inexperienced when it comes to car buying, especially used cars.

What should I check before writing the check?$2800 for a 2004 Crown Victoria with 128k miles? Is it a good deal?
    Buy it.

Yes it is a GREAT deal.$2800 for a 2004 Crown Victoria with 128k miles? Is it a good deal?
Ford Crown Victoria are extremely good cars and no matter how old it is you can always find parts for it, unlike the GM or Dodge built ones. Very good breaks and its transmission and engine is virtually indestructible.$2800 for a 2004 Crown Victoria with 128k miles? Is it a good deal?

What is the best way to get around Victoria BC on a 2 day trip, bring a car or use public transportation?

We will be there May 13th through 16th and are considering taking our car via the ferry from Port Angeles, WA. Is there parking for our car in Port Angeles? How reliable and frequent is public transportation in Victoria? What is the best way to get around Victoria BC on a 2 day trip, bring a car or use public transportation?
Walking is good for Victoria. A majority of the hotels and a majority the attractions are within the downtown area and Inner Harbour. These places, aren't worth taking a car as you have to worry about parking. The two big things outside of that area I can think of are the casino - that has a free shuttle bus, a Buchard Gardens - that you can take a bus tour of. But, that is a half day to full day event in itself. If you are going on a 2 day trip, Buchard would then be half your plans, verses sticking around the Innner Harbour and doing several other things.

And yes. Public transportation is great in Victoria. Most routes leave from downtown. The average is 15 to 30 minutes between buses. Longer routes aren't as well covered, or in off periods.

One of the ferry FAQ says there are several lots near the terminal, and parking ranges from $5 to $9 per day. What is the best way to get around Victoria BC on a 2 day trip, bring a car or use public transportation?
Transit is pretty good, but I would still recommend taking the car to go see things outside The city like parks etc. What is the best way to get around Victoria BC on a 2 day trip, bring a car or use public transportation?
Public transportation is abundant, Walking is preferable , especially along the inner harbour, but outside of Victoria Itself, you might want to see Butchart Gardens or other places that require a car.

Why do taxis use crown victoria?

They use gas like a monster, but why are they used on taxi? I figure they'll lose a lot of money by using them, better go with more fuel sufficient cars like honda civic/toyota prius right? Why do taxis use crown victoria?
wont be long/the taxi commission has mandated new cars to be nissan 4 cylinders and the wagon style/as taxis wear out they have to be replaced by these hybrid types
been using crown Vic's as taxis long before gas got up to $4 @ gallon.

they are favored because they are relatively cheap cars to put 150k+ miles on. They are large so safety isn't an issue, the parts are cheap because it's american an they're a very comfortable ride (wouldn't you rather ride in the back seat of a Vic rather than a civic?)Why do taxis use crown victoria?
It's the only big CAR left. Huge trunk. Lots of space in the front and back seats. I love my dads because it's a retired cop car with most of the equipment left in and on it.
Several places already use the Prius and have for years.

They get them cheap from the police department.

I have seen more and more Prius as taxis.

What is the best way to travel around in Victoria BC? Is it best to rent a car or use the bus system?

This is our first trip to Victoria. We are unsure of the best way to navigate ourselves from the airport in Vancouver to Victoria to Butchart Gardens and other attractions. We have heard that the bus system works about the best and costs less. The ferry ride would be less without a rental car but we don't want to feel "stuck" without transportation. Would love to hear from others who have gone before us and can give us some tips to make our travel more enjoyable. Thank you! What is the best way to travel around in Victoria BC? Is it best to rent a car or use the bus system?
The best way to get to Victoria from Vancouver is by The Pacifac Coach Lines. There are busses leaving the airport in Vancouver every two hours which will take you right to your hotel in Victoria or drop you off downtown. The cost is only about $40.00 one way. The ferry takes 1 3/4 hours and is an exciting trip in itself. Be sure to watch for whales. Once you get to Victoria, I think you would find that if you rent a car it's going to end up parked most of the time anyways because the majority of the tourist attractions are in about a six block radious of each other right downtown. I would suggest doing all of the walking tours of Victoria first and then renting a car for a couple of days to see the attractions on the outskirts of the city or out of town. When I lived in Victoria I used to leave my car at home and walk everywhere because it was so much faster because of the heavy tourist traffic both in cars and on foot. There are several very interesting ways to see the sites in Victoria. You can take a double decker bus tour, ride the Tally Hoes ( horse drawn carriage tours) ride in a rickshaw, take boat tours, rent a bicycle or scooter, ( all of these are available right beside the Parliment Buildings) or even take the city transit bus. Victoria's city busses are very clean and will take you anywhere you want to go. Some must see's in Victoria include the Boardwalk along Marina Boulavard, tea at The Empress, The Parliment Buildings, the buskers at Inner Harbour, Whale watching tours, Underwater Seaworld and the museums. Out of town must see's are East Sooke Park, French Beach, Chamanius (city of murals), Butchard Gardens and the Coach House pubs along the highway on route to Sooke. The websites below include information on Victoria, bus information, car rentals and attractions. Hope this helps and that you enjoy your trip. I know you will love it.

What is the best way to travel around in Victoria BC? Is it best to rent a car or use the bus system?
Wow. What a dilemma. I don't have the best answer. But will list out some pros and cons for each.

The first are con's against a car. Victoria is hell to navigate. Sure, an easy 30 minute drive from the ferry to downtown where your hotel is probably located. But in general, the roads wind and change names, etc. I think it is partially because back in the day, they had a British round-a-bout system that is now converted to traffic lights. With the latter you would have parallel streets running into 2 street intersections. In the former why not 4 or 6 roads heading to a round-a-bout. Plus it is an island with peninsulas, bridges, and coastlines; the roads can't be straight. So, when you add an an elderly population driving, plus other tourists driving, it may not be a vacation to drive. Other than Butchard Gardens, there are a lot of attractions in the downtown area, so a car is not need. And basically, all transit routes go downtown, so if your hotel isn't downtown you will probably be able to get there easy. Finally, the bus drives right onto the ferry, you don't have to deal with the line up. AND there will be a line up at the ferry.

PCL is the bus that goes from the airport, right onto the ferry and to downtown Victoria. It's a long trip, and the fewer times you transfer your luggage the better. Their link is attached. Problems? The ride takes forever, it leaves every 2 hours and the last one is 7:40 PM, probably getting you to downtown Victoria 11:30ish. I guess realistically, you can only leave by car about half an hour later than that last bus to make it. You may want to see if the PCL return trip via Buchard Gardens works for you. Looks to be a smooth option, but the timing has to be right for your other travel plans. Renting a car and a well timed ferry reservation could shorten that trip by 90 minutes. It's not guaranteed, there are lots of variables, especially if you skip the ferry reservation. But my bet is a car is smother and faster. And the cost is about the same for caching the ferry with a car as it is for 2 taking the bus. You still have costs of the car, but if 3 or 4 are traveling, the car becomes cheaper. Even with 2, if you happen on a good car rate like a weekend or week deal, the car option can be cheaper.

The double decker bus is the other tour option for hitting Buchard. It is also attached. It is $50 each. Buchard costs $23 each. So again, you can ask for specific driving directions from the hotel, rent a car for the day, and get there quicker, cheaper and freer. The thing I hate about a bus is the freedom. With your own car you can leave earlier if you get board, or stay until it closes if you love the place.
You can hop on a lovely double decker for like, 2.50 and get into downtown! The transit there is great, scooters are another option to rent, the weather is usually pretty fair this time of year. Bicycling in Victoria, and around that area is not to be missed though!!! The Galloping Goose trail is awesome...Bike shops rent really nice hybrids for the day! Then, there's the car, my last choice though! Enjoy, it's a lovely city to visit! What is the best way to travel around in Victoria BC? Is it best to rent a car or use the bus system?
If you are staying downtown, you do NOT need to rent a car or take the bus. Victoria's centre is a very walkable city.

From the airport, hop on an Akal shuttle. They leave the airport all the time and will take you to your hotel for about $15.

To go to Butchart Gardens from downtown, go to the downtown bus depot on Douglas. They have trips leaving from there daily. Also, in front of the harbour and Empress hotel, double decker buses leave all the time. You can ask at the booths on the sidewalks and get tickets for tours around the city there.

Also, one great thing to do here is go whale watching. It's expensive but worth it. About $100 each. Trips are daily and take about 3-4 hours.

Definitely the bus is a cheap option. Try contacting Pacific Coach Lines. They include the ferry on the way to Victoria and also have the option of going on tours in the Butchart Gardens.

Do these cars use the same Modular V8 engine that the Mustang use?

Lincoln Towncar, Grand Marquis, Crown Vic, also Marauder?

And what engine from ford is better the Windsor V8 or the Modular V8 installed in the Crown Vic and Grand Marquis?

And will Ford build a Brand New Crown Victoria in the future

wit a new chassis on a new platform or will they just keep using the panther platform?Do these cars use the same Modular V8 engine that the Mustang use?
I would have to look at the vin numbers to tell you for sure but a modular is either a romeo or winsor.... It's how the cross main bolts, bolt in as well as some other structual changes, but I've seen the basic blocks used in almost everything from f-150s on down to the Mustangs

The Marauder was a 32 valve 4.6 as found in some special edition Mustangs but I beleive was slightly detuned

My experience shows that both engines if taken care of last the same amount... I've seen Crown vic engines have 300k worth of running time on the engine already still going (In police service .. Basically a car with 30k has about 25k miles of run time on it idling)

It's up in the air on the CV.. some say Ford will discontinue it in favor of making the taurus the large vehicle, others rumor to a australian design import, while others hint to it being a offshoot of the mustang if I remember.Do these cars use the same Modular V8 engine that the Mustang use?
yes they are the same engines. some may be the 4 valve version such as the marauder and some police interceptor packages in the crown vic.Do these cars use the same Modular V8 engine that the Mustang use?
    no they dont

  • Just bought a used car, has needed repairs since purchase and warranty almost up.. what can i do?

Have only had the vehicle for approx 9 days, the remaining time has been with dealer who is trying to "source" parts. When i get it back, my warranty will be over. Am i entitled to any compensation, or extended warranty from the dealer? How do i know if i have bought a lemon? Also, have been without a car since I purchased it, and am paying my repayments for a vehicle that I don't have as it's continually needing fixing. Live in Victoria, Australia.Just bought a used car, has needed repairs since purchase and warranty almost up.. what can i do?
if you have paid seek legal advice, keep a detailed log of occurrences and do not inform dealer that you have sought advice, consumer affairs victoria will give free advice over the phone , if you have not paid return the vehicle and refuse to buy itJust bought a used car, has needed repairs since purchase and warranty almost up.. what can i do?
If your car was at the dealer for (say) 10 days, you'll probably get that much max (if ever). Whatever work they have done will have it's own warranty on labor and parts.

Too late to worry about having bought a lemon.

What kinds of cars have been used as police cars in the United States?

It's easy to recognize a cop car - the logos, blue lights, etc...and besides, nearly every one I've seen is either a Ford Crown Victoria or, lately, a Chevrolet Impala.

I've also seen some Dodge Chargers, Camaros, Mustangs, and Caprice's used as cop cars.

What about in the 1990s and below? Was there a standard police car that was used? Was it just the Caprice and Crown vic? Were others used?

What about the 1970s? Or before?

And were the cars then a special police package as they are now - souped up engine, suspension, electrical system, etc - or were they just normal cars with a police logo on the side and a light on the top?

(I'm just talking about CARS, by the way, not asking about SUV and truck police vehicles)What kinds of cars have been used as police cars in the United States?
In the 80's and 90's the Main cars were the Chevy Caprice, Ford Crown Vic and the Dodge Diplomat/Plymouth Fury III. Ford and Chevrolet continued into the 90's but the Chrysler Corp. eliminated the Fury and Diplomat in favor of front wheel drive vehicles. the 80's also saw Departments buying the Mustang and Camaro "Interceptors" or Pursuit vehicles.

During the 70's Chevy and Ford were in the game But Chrysler products were the most common. Another alternative was the AMC Ambassador up till the mid 70's. In the mid to late 70's Ford and Chevy began to offer smaller squads after the energy crisis. the more notable were the Chevy Nova and the Ford Granada/Fairmont. Chrysler eliminated the 440 engine in favor of the 318 in the Fury/Coronet.

Back in the 60's squads were for the most part a simple, stripped down 4-door sedan. But with the Musclecars being made in the late 60's, AMC, GM Ford and Chrysler began to offer better suspensions, bigger engines and heavy duty components. This was considered the beginning of the "Squad Package" by automakers.

But some Depts. did get specialty vehicles. I can't remember which State Agency had them but they did buy AMC Javelins, which was a two door musclecar as a regular patrol vehicle.

In the 70's they were regular cars in Ga. Most were Crown VIctorias also
I grew up in centerville, OH.....those guys had VOLVO's for their police force. Preppy police. What kinds of cars have been used as police cars in the United States?
I work for a company that installs all the toys into police cars. I have delivered cars to 30 cities in Northern CA. and let assure you that 95% of them are Crown Vics. There have been a few Chevys and one Dodge but they are usually undercover cars. The problem with the Dodge and Chevy is that they don't have the interior room of the Crown Vic.
there use to be 1978 cameros with 454 hp engines, and Z28's with full blown 540 hp engines!!! Now they have 2007-08 corvettes on the highway, unmarked until they put their lights on . That is only to try to catch people who think they can try to RACE a Corvette!! Then all of a sudden,,, WHAMMO, YOU BUSTED!!!!!!!!!!! They are very slick, they also have Land Rovers and Jimmys (jeeps) that will get ya if ya go OFF ROAD!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck out there if ya got a WEAK CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BE Carefull!!!!!!!!!!! Drive SAFELY TOO!!!!!!!!!
    ford crown Vic was common
Mostly Caprices and Crown Vics in the 80s and the old Impala in the 70s
In the 1960's Dodges were common. Impalas and Fords were around to a lessor extent

A Comet with a 440 Magnum was hard to beat.
Some states use Buick Grand Nationals. In the 80's it was the fastest production car ever made at that time. Production car. There were faster cars made then but did not produce enough of them to be considered production cars. They had about 500 horse power. For the 80's that was considered phenomenal. There is only around 800 left on the road. Alot of people took the engines out and put them in other cars.
In the late 1980's, several states tried using Mustang LX's for their fast take off power. Didn't work out, though. In some cities, dumb thieves thought the 911 on the sides of the car meant they were Porsches.

Guaranteed you've never seen Cooper mini's used as cop cars.
Your Q shows much knowledge on the subject--nice!

In the late 80's, Amberley Village, Ohio cops drove Buick LeSabres.

Ford Fairlanes were popular all over the place in the 50's and 60's.

You are also right that "police packages" on cop cars were common. I remember a Dodge "Interceptor" package, built around a 440 c.i.d. engine [w/ 6-pak carb, I think]. Actually, Ford discontinued the Crown Vic a few years ago, but resumed production in response to howls of protest from coppers everywhere!

My college GF was from Centerville. It is preppy! haha gg!
IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHOM GETS THE CONTRACT AS THE LOWEST BIDDER WITH THE MOST PACKAGE OR BANG FOR THE BUCK.

Audis are fun to drive, but 5 people is pushing it a bit. 5 can fit in back, but they had better be short and skinny!!!

I've run a repair shop for 30+ years (http://econofix.com) and some of my biggest pains have been Audis! They require plenty of special tools and need teeny tiny fingers to get in the tight places. I especially hate the 5 cylinder models!
I don't like them try a 2006 f150What do you think of these cars?
5 people including the driver should be no problem
ya i think it will..its a gr8 car..but check out even wth da commercial point of view..i mean da mileage etc..What do you think of these cars?
I think the Audi can fit 5 people easily and I like it a lot. I think those 3 cars will fit in just fine, but I think the Audi is better than average.
ahh an audi, das a good car make, n dey make more den enough room for 5 pplz, + prvt skl ppl shld like em.... i tink ^.^
Are you serious? Of all the cars you can pick, why not get something less expensive just to drive to school for 20 min. drive.

To heck with trying to fit in at the private school, if you have to drive this car to fit in and be cool, I would give up. Who cares.

  • Why few people buy the Ford Crown Victoria?

I don't know why Ford Crown Victoria is more used in fleets such as taxis and police cars and few people buy. I think this car is considered to be a luxury executive sedan car.Why few people buy the Ford Crown Victoria?
i love the crown vic, dont get me wrong, the TERRIBLE depreciation is good for me so i can buy lots of used ones cheap, not so good to a showroom buyer, and when there is a merc and lincoln option for only a few grand extra who would buy the ford except cops and cabbies?

they are nice cars though, and when you swap in a dohc4.6 and some of the other parts from a cobra you have quite the sleeper there.
Mainly the stigma of it either being a cop, taxi, or old people car.

Mainly it being a old people car unless it's dressed out as an undercover car....Why few people buy the Ford Crown Victoria?
The manufacturers all used to put out a model that could be a cab or beefed up for police and emergency duty--the Chevy Biscayne--the Dodge Polara--the Plymouth Fury-The Ford Fairlane--the Buick Special, the Olds 88. The market was open and the wild horsepower available made these cars choices to be had. The public loved the big cars too. Gas and economy issues are what downsized the vehicles--back in the 70s. The manufacturers were pressed to make fuel efficient cars--so big cars did not sell anymore. Not worth it to make a few thousand for police work or cabs--that's why so many cabs are USED police cars. The Chevy Caprice was a favored large car for emergency work--as was the Ford Crown Victoria. These two were locked in battle till the Ford won out and seems to be the car of choice. The Caprice is now a downsized 6 cylinder called Impala--what a joke!! The Crown Vic is still the full size car for cops and for the executive who likes the full size car in a dressed up cover....and yes, the cabs
cause ther cop car in america and people will think your an undercover copWhy few people buy the Ford Crown Victoria?
The Crown Vic doesn't stack up well against the competion. Motor Trend magazine said about the Crown Vic, in a road test: "A V-8 that thinks it's a V-6". Also: "Small back seat".
THE CROWN VIC WAS THE SINGLE BEST SELLING AND LASTING POLICE PACKAGE CAR AVAILABLE SINCE THE CAPRICE WAS STILL WORTH A CRAP.
Aging design and poor fuel economy make this car a tough sell to the general public. Plus the Mercury Grand Marquis is nearly identical. It gets most of the retail sales and there aren't enough customers left over for the Ford.
The Crown Vic isn't as nice as the Grand Marquis. Both are very simular cars but the Marquis is more luxurious while the Crown Vic is more basic hence it's cheaper for the fleets.

I would buy a Marquis or a Lincoln before a Crown Vic.

As for the first answer you got, I think vtec is duhhh.
cops and taxis do use crown vics duhhh

Question for a police officer about police cars?

I am looking into buying a used police car from an auction since they're really cheap. I also heard that they are more high performance versions of the crown victoria than what is sold at a car dealership. Is this true, and if so, to what extent are they higher performance than a "stock" crown victoria.Question for a police officer about police cars?
First of all, I love my Crown Vic patrol car. But that's mostly because the city pays all the bills. It gets about 10 MPG. I would never consider buying a retired police car, we drive them like we stole them. It may last a while, but it will not only have engine and transmission problems, but it will also have suspension and possibly electric issues. Save yourself the headache, without a "barn" to drop it off at whenever it breaks down for free repairs, don't buy one.Question for a police officer about police cars?
Most cop cars sold at auction around here are junk.

The cars may or may not have certain parts of a police package, depends what the car was originally bought for.

For example city patrol cars do not usually have the computer chip changed to improve performance (and decrease gas mileage) but they do have the larger alternator and special suspension package (just cost more to replace now that they are getting old).

Some have dual batteries, good if your running a lot of equipment.

Pay no attention to the "Police Interceptor" badge on the car. That means nothing.

IN some states if it has dual spots you have to take one off.

Most cop cars have full sized spares.Question for a police officer about police cars?
Well they are built stronger and will last you a while. They have stronger brakes, better suspesion, larger gas tank and a V8 Engine. Police vics burn alot of gas so be prepared to spend alot on fuel. Also check the milage and inspect the car to make sure it's good.

Where can you buy used police cars at?

ive all ways wanted a crown victoria and i live in Lexington kentuckyWhere can you buy used police cars at?
Police departments have auctions when they get rid of their old police cars. Call them and ask them when and where they are planning their next auction. Another place to look is EBAY and Craigslist.Where can you buy used police cars at?
At a police auction. Read the classifieds in your local newspaper or go to the police department's web site. Or you could buy a Crown Vic at any used car dealer.Where can you buy used police cars at?

Is the Chevrolet Caprice still used as police car in Baltimore?

Is the Chevrolet Caprice still used as police car? I know that most police cars in Baltimore are Chevrolet Impala and Ford Crown Victoria. Are there any Chevrolet Caprice left? Or have they all been retired? Is the Chevrolet Caprice still used as police car in Baltimore?
They have been long retired. Police put a ton of hard miles on a car and therefore they typically get replaced every few years. There is no way they would still be using a car thats at least 15 years old as it would probably have well over 1 million miles now.

Ok so I was searching this topic and I found this list of "fast cars" These model cars are from the early 1990's. I have been doing very little research and I know that porches are VERY expensive cars to maintain. So most likely I am no going to get that car. This car would be my daily driver, but my work and school are very close to me, like a 7 minute drive. I dont care if the car is European, Japanese, American, or Korean. I would just like a fast reliable car. I am liking the Dodge Stealth R/T AWD/Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4,Pontiac Firebird Formula and the price seem reasonable. Do you recommend any cars for me? I am not mechanically inclined, I don't even know how to change the oil. Also I've been looking at used cop cars (crown victoria p71) and I've seen them sell 2003-2005 models for around 4-7 thousand dollars, which is not bad for the year. Even though they are not the greatest looking car, they do carry a v8.

Get a civic. Most reliable cars on the road(IMO). Also make sure to get either a B16 engine or a B20 with a B16 head. Honestly Honda's are the biggest "bang" for your buck. There are many after market parts for them, and they look a hell of a lot better than a stealth or crown v.. Im not talking riced out trash though. If you want a goof, fast reliable car go Honda they are light, cheap to fix, easy to maintain and will run you well over 200,000 miles.
Stealth R/T AWD and 3000GT VR4 will not be under 8k, unless they need alot of work. dont believe me, look it up on KBB.com or nada.

old camaros, and firebirds arent can be had on Craigslist for less than 5k with new motors in them and some go fast goodies. that would be a good place to start, also contact a decent dealership and see if they can find you what you are looking for, most will be glad to help you out if you pay them for itLooking for a good, fast, reliable, used car under 8k?
I am looking for a car in a similar class to you. I personally intend to go with an A4 or A6 V6 or an S4/S6 if you can find one though it'd be a bit rough.

They aren't extremely fast by any means, but they are still quite quick and have the luxurious aspect to them that all those other cars lack and there is no way that you could afford the insurance on those cars if you have a 10k limit. Your insurance will be at around 200 if you get a V8. With that, I am assuming you are quite young if you're still in school because my insurance on my I4 ZX2 is over 100 for full coverage.

However, the turbocharged V6 would likely be less; though it'd still be high. I'm not sure if it's an option for you, but I intend to get an S4 and the insurance, if under my name, would likely be quite high so we're going to put the insurance under my dad's name and have mine be on our Explorer.

Information about the Crown Victoria police interceptor and the dodge charger police car?

    Hello,

I am doing some research about police cars that most police departments use. All i ask that it's not from Wikipedia. And the police cars i need to know about is the Crown Victoria police car and the dodge charger police car.

If i could have the following information or even more:

    - How fast can they go. HP, RPM

    - Turning skills

    - ETC.

    O. Big question. Can any of the police cars go up street stairs or would it break the police car?Information about the Crown Victoria police interceptor and the dodge charger police car?

There they test the handling and performance of each vehicle. It's interesting even if you aren't researching it.

And in terms of going up and down stairs, MAYBE the Crown Vic can, but I doubt it...

Should I buy a used Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor?

I was thinking about buying a Crown Vic recently and I just wanted to ask if I should or should not go for it. Now I have been getting a lot of gripe from people saying not to buy used police cars cause they are beat up and so on. But in my mind these cars are really reliable and they have to be maintained no matter how much they get beat up. Mind you I live in Jersey so I do have to worry about rust and stuff but I figured it would be better to ask people who knew what they were talking about. So let me here it.Should I buy a used Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor?
The only downside I can think of is they have a large engine so gas mileage will not be too good.

They were specifically made to take abuse so maintenance should not be much of an issue.
Mechanically sound cars that are usually beat up on the outside.

If I needed a car, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it.Should I buy a used Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor?
buy it, they put alot of money into upgrading and maintaining those cars!
If you're a decent mechanic and know how to keep the car running, go ahead and get one.Should I buy a used Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor?
    Yes, very reliable..buy it.
    Yes, buy it.

Would a classic crown victoria be considered a muscle car?

What I'm primarily talking about are the Crown Victorias from the late 80's.

According to wikipedia a "muscle car" is basically a mid-sized american car with a high-powered engine and a high-torque drivetrain.

The Vics of the era were used as police cars, and were all equipped with high-end V8's. And from personal experience I know they possess quite a bit of torque as well. Yet whenever I hear talk of the Vics they are always referred to as luxury cars.

Anywho, this is a poll: so say your opinion: Crown Victorias from the late 80's: Luxury or Muscle Car?Would a classic crown victoria be considered a muscle car?
Middle-priced luxury? Perhaps! Muscle car? No way!

Would a classic crown victoria be considered a muscle car?
A muscle car for old ladies I suppose.....

    Jeeze, go play on Myspace.
Plenty of luxury cars have large torquey engines from Cadi's to BMW's. Muscle cars have a distinct ominous look to them, not just beefy engines.

Crown Vic = Luxury CarWould a classic crown victoria be considered a muscle car?
Tanks, which were selected by the police for their comfort and size, not their speed in the quarter mile. A lot of police departments drove Mustangs, until the discomfort of long hours in a cramped car, changed their minds about what a good cruiser was.
A muscle car must: be built between 1960 and 1973, have a V8, have 2 doors, and be RWD. Hot rod sure, but not a muscle car.
Neither. There were some Crown Victorias equipped with a special police package, which included among other things 351 motors and upgraded suspensions, but to call any Crown Victoria a muscle car is to grossly overrate it. They were absolutely not all equipped as police interceptors. In fact, the majority of them were equipped as overweight, underpowered, gas-guzzling mushy-riding overrated full-size sedans, many of them with a weak 302 that was choked with smog devices and burdened with a hybrid 2-barrel half-carburetor-half-fuel injector. Even the 5.0 Mustangs from the 80s got decent fuel injection. Some Crown Victorias were upgraded with lots of power accessories, but to call them luxury cars is again overstating them. If you wanted something from the Ford Motor Company that was luxurious, you could step up to Lincoln, which ironically was built on the same rehashed Panther chassis. On the flip side, my 1985 Crown Victoria lasted 250,000 miles and 20 years before the engine lost oil pressure and died.
    Hi,

I'll have to say a Luxury car.

    Mac
no ,nothing in the luxury line of cars is considered to be a muscle car,and one of that size wouldn't fit the category anyway, good luck on it.
Could be both. Find one with all the police accessories still on %26amp; in the motor and you'll have a muscle car. But good luck finding one that hasn't been put back to normal for street driving. They usually strip them to make them legal for normal street use.
No these were definitely considered luxury cars by the manufacturer, and built for a safe smooth ride at high speed. The Mustang is a muscle car-the Crown Vic, even the police version is definitely no muscle car.
definitely not a muscle car, it has smog equipment
    Sorta Luxury not much muscle.
    Get your facts straight!

    Not all were equipped with high-end V8's . . . . .

Also, Wikipedia is not the most reliable source of information . . .

I bought a used car and it had this good smell but I don't know which air freshener it is?

So basically I'm looking for this air freshener that is in my car I just bought used, but the air freshener is not in there, and I went to the auto parts shop and let the workers smell it to determine which air freshener it is, but they are all clueless, how will I ever find out? It's a crown victoria, maybe this air freshener is generally used in a crown vic for taxi cab, patrol car? Anyone know?I bought a used car and it had this good smell but I don't know which air freshener it is?

  • How many miles is too much to buy on a used 2000 crown victoria police interceptor?

the car currently has 190,000 miles on it but i talked to a taxi driver who said crown victorias can get more than 400,000 miles... Just need your opinionHow many miles is too much to buy on a used 2000 crown victoria police interceptor?
Well to be absolutely honest for the price id have to tell id go for it just be sure to take a pretty good look at the engine and look out for oil leaks which is the main killer of those engines from what ive came across 190,000 miles is pretty high but so long as it was taken care of you should be able to push on up to 300,000 pretty easilyHow many miles is too much to buy on a used 2000 crown victoria police interceptor?
It all depends upon the type of use that they've had. What makes the Interceptor a good car is...heat is the enemy of all cars. They've got a larger than normal cooling system, as well as a large oil cooler.

Downside: It was actually used as an interceptor. Lot's of idle engine time waiting for your average perp (perpetrator)..idle time at doughnut shops.

Upside: It was used as part of a municipal fleet.

Many cab companies do use ex-squad card, in particular the crown vic interceptor. They generally buy them at auction from some of the sites that recondition them. They're open to the pulic.

Usually the Interceptors are dumped to auction around 60-80000 miles. You've got one there that has had a lot of use as a personal vehicle by the looks.

I've got one that I purchased for the same price as you that has 120K on it. Mileage is a bit high. I wouldn't jump too fast at that one...check out the policecar auction sites. They do a nice job. You'll get a nice car, refurbished, for reasonable.

What condition of cars can I expect for this price?

    Hi there,

I am shopping for a used car, and would like to buy a car outright for around $5000-$6000.

Here is a list of the vehicles that I am interested in:

    - 3rd generation Toyota 4runner

    - 2003+ Ford Crown Victoria / Mercury Grand Marquis

    - Ford Ranger

    - GMC Yukon 2 door

What condition should I expect for this price range? What condition of cars can I expect for this price?
Used car prices are high this summer, because there is still a shortage of new cars that use parts from Japan. The Japanese factories shut down after the earthquakes and tsunami and resulting nuclear power plants disasters and still haven't recovered to full production.

If you want to find out what a used car will cost in today's market, I'd suggest you do some homework by checking out the cars you want to buy on the Kelley Blue Book or NADA used car value web sites.

    http://www.kbb.com

http://www.nada.comWhat condition of cars can I expect for this price?
You might find a 15-year old car/truck in that price range that has about 100K miles and is still in pretty good shape. I bought a Chevy Tahoe last fall for $5,500 that had 90K miles and was immaculate. The only thing wrong with it was the alarm system that locked out the ignition one too many times before I had it extracted.

If you could afford it, what would be your dream car?

I would have to win the lotto, but my "dream car" would be a 1-year-old (used) Crown Victoria Police Car. You can see them for sale on the internet under 'used police cars.' I would want it in glossy black, with black "stealth" PURSUIT reflective lettering on both sides, big lettering, door to floor size. I want the white strobes, lots of them. Navy blue cloth interior. 8 speakers and gps. 5 point seat belts, red! Dark window tinting. Custom license plate on the back NOTACOP. Oh to dream. I never understand why people always want the most expensive cars. They just say money, if you know what type of cars they are. Most people do not, drive up in a Bentley 4-door sedan and everyone is wondering "what is it?" and have NO clue as to the price. My car would be one-of-a-kind and a blast to drive. Never could afford to buy and custom-build one, family and bills. But it is nice to dream...

What's your dream car?If you could afford it, what would be your dream car?
My dream car? I have no Idea, but if I had a car I liked it'd be a totally pimped Rolls Royce, Hey, even 13 yr olds can dream of some high class cars.
mine is my Chevy Camaro SS 67

Aston Martin Vanquish, no question about it. But, then you'd need to afford some long private highways ... Oh, what a sweet car ...

For those of you who don't know what this car is, James Bond fancies wrecking them. Check out their website. All their models are amazing cars. And, you MUST listen to the V12 engine sound sample they have.
This may sound silly, but my dream car is a brand new 1986 model toyota mr-2 turbo with t tops.I have owned many diffrent kinds of cars trucks and suvs.I bought a used wore out 86 mr2 without t tops or turbo I absolutly loved this car.Like a duma$$ I traded it I swore to all my friends find me a new one in crate with turbo and t tops I will buy it no matter what the price.I have even considered restoring a used one to new condition. If you could afford it, what would be your dream car?
A Lada convertable with vinyl cracked seats and an am radio with one speaker.
    A Restored 1970.5 RS-Z28 Camaro... WITH Air Condition. :)
My Dream car is...... a 1950 Buick Special Fastback. Im going to get one this summer..... then drop the suspension, rebuild the engine and interior, flowmaster exhaust system. ect......... I dont care for new cars.... they are over rated with the computer garbage.... I like old classics with raw muscle. :)
It would have to be a 4x4 truck.

I'm thinking a smaller one, like a TOYOTA, but it has to have a king cab...

I like going out "Rockhounding", so though a 4x4 is not a MUST, it does help.

I like to go off the beaten path, Crystals, malachite, gemstones (in the future I hope) and eventually some GOLD PANNING would be good.

    So Hmmm...

A Black, custom/ king cab 4x4, with a winch so I can pull out others who are not in a 4x4...maybe pay for my gas...

Nice sterio, C.D. player, and yes...G.P.S. so I can look at my map, and just get right there.

Yeah, I like to dream too.

One of these days I will achieve that goal/ dream.

    DJH
Porsche 911, the epitome and standard by which all sports cars try to mimic. by far the best driving experience in the world of driving. all those Japanese rice rockets cant compare, the Italian cars are pretentious and shrill, and the rest are still trying to catch up to the engineering.
    Mercedes E-class
A totally custom made Rolls Royce. With every conceivable luxery and an awesome sound system.
    Porche Cayanne

I just love the design.. everything else follows!
Lime green Volkswagon Beetle.... Im easy to please.
21 window VW bus with safari windows
the aston martn rapide .. sexi *** car ...
I would get a DUKW and do some work to the motor to make it faster on land and water. Hell it'd be my boat and car all in one.

Did you say money was no object? Well then I'd have to make it air-worthy as well. Ok I know, I know, too heavy. Well with money being no object, I would have a vehicle made that could fly, drive at or close to highway speeds and make it amphibious as well. That's my dream!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DUKW
An Austin Martin, and i can afford it.All i have to do is ask Daddy.
Actually I wouldn't mind having a hybrid, but not a first year model because they have to work out the kinks. Maybe a station wagon model. I would like to go across the United States really cheaply with my family. We would go to all the tourist spots like grand canyon, redwood forest, etc and it would be cheap on gas.
69 Roadrunner mint condition with a hemi w/ a/c and the best sound system you could put in it candy apple red
A Viper or a fixed up muscle car.
Nothing fancy, just a practical, comfortable, safe vehicle which is economical to run. My first choice would be a Ford Escape with the 16-valve, aluminum, Duratech engine.

Thumbs down??? Someone here on Yahoo Answers SUCKS.
OH! A McLaren F1!!! But realistically, I'd get a fully loaded convertible G6 or a loaded RX8. *sigh*
    my dream car is a

1967 Pontiac GTO in mint condition

Not restored with a manual Trans green paint job with a black inside of the car

now thats a dream car :)
mine would have to be the new dodge challenger hemi car that Chrysler corporation is going to build ,i would like to have the very first one off the assembly line, that's if i won the lottery ,for now i can dream about it,we all would go crazy without being able to at least dream about these things. good luck.
There is just so many cars I would like,

I worked for Porsche for a few years, I own a Porsche, ..but If i had to pick 1, and 1 only... a Lamborghini (any)

I love Porsche's dearly but nothing comes close to Lamborghini.
I probably would get a slug bug. I think that that would be the BEST car EVR!
    Mars Rover
69 trans am / mint / black and fast
    A 2000 - 05 Buick LeSabre G-Body or a 1990's Impala SS
if money was no issue i dont know what i would get. it would most likely be a navy blue 67 stang with a v12 and a blower. so it has that growl. inside would be black seats. trunk would have a 5 channel 250 watt per channel amp in it 2 8's behind back seat 2 8's in the door pannels on the front and a 12'' sub under the center console. and it would have a headphone jack in on the amp so i can plug my mp3 player into it or use the radio/cd player. cd player would be one of those 15 cd changers with the cd holder in center consoleabove the sub

    Ford Crown Victoria?

I looking at some used cars and i saw a dealership sellling used crown victoria (ex-police cars) for a great price.

    -Are they reliable?

-Is maintance or gas expensive on the Crown Victoria?

-Should I trust the this car is not going to break down in 5 years

-What is your opinion about them?

2001 car- is around 2,500 and have 95,000 miles

2003 car-is selling for 5,500 and has 125,000-135,000 milesFord Crown Victoria?
Ex police cruisers are a great deal! If you can, find one that was used as an unmarked car or Governor security. I know that sounds picky but they probably have led a better life. Don't overpay!Ford Crown Victoria?
Gee they still make them... that shows something. My Dad has been driving a 1995 ex-police cruiser I got him at auction.... It has over 160,000 on the clock and is still real strong. I'd do it again.... these are the backbone of the big cars for fordFord Crown Victoria?
They buy up old cops cars and make Taxis out of them and drive them another 3 4 years 24 7 so what does that tell you.

How are cars assigned to a cop?

From where I live, I see many different cop cars: Dodge Charger, Ford Crown Victoria, and Chevrolet Caprice or Impala. Why do cops have different cars? Is each car used for a different purpose, such as patrol, response, traffic, etc?How are cars assigned to a cop?
In my area departments have specialized cars for different jobs. Take mine for example we use SUV's for K-9 units to provide the dogs more room. We use Crown Vic's for regular patrol duties and we have two Dodge Chargers for pursuits. The cars are assigned by what your aptitude is and how you can use the car best. Take my unmarked Tahoe for example, I'm usually not going out on calls due to being a sergeant and supervisor, so I usually do traffic stops in the meantime. Hence my having an unmarked unit for traffic stops. However this may be different for all departments, I would recommend calling them on a non emergency number and asking to speak to a public affairs officer to find out more information. How are cars assigned to a cop?
They are not just cars. They are all specially produced for police work. The Dodge Charger YOU would buy is different then the one the police would buy and the same with the other models you mention. Standard production model cars have standard engines and transmissions. Those made for police use have more hearty componants, specifically the engines, transmissions and suspensions to allow for longer and harder use that the police put them through. That is why the average person would buy a Crown Vic but the ones the police have also have the "Interceptor" plate on them to show they were made for police work.

Now, more to the subject of your question, the cars used for police work are purchased because those manufacturers made those cars to a more heavy duty standard for police work. A department will buy which ever of those models, in any given year, that they can get the best deal on. That means that over the years the department ends up with an assortment of different vehicles unless they have a departmental standard to only buy Crown Vics or one of the others to keep maintenance simple.

Specialized units within the department may still require, and get, different vehicles. For example K9 officers may have SUVs of some sort, as would ERT/SWAT while Forensic Ident may have larger "bread truck" type vehicles and Community Relations may have more "novelty" type vehicles for PR use.

The names you mention, from year to year, are pretty much the main suppliers of police vehicles. In my area the Caprice and Impala of recent years are not normally viewed as being to standard so we tend to use mostly Crown Vics with Chargers also but only more recently. I remember years ago a number of departments were even using Liminas but that only lasted a couple of years. Even Volvo tried to get into the North American police car market back in the early 90s but that didn't last. How are cars assigned to a cop?
The city buys the cars they want. Usually what they get the best deal on but there is also politics involved. For example Chicago, which uses well over 900 cars, just ordered 300 Fords particularly because the Ford plant that make the police interceptor is in Chicago.

do you really expect even your local departments to change all the cars at the same time?

You get a car that is assigned to your beat. The assignment is made by the commander or watch commander. Have nothing to do with the officer, etc. if the car is for patrol.

Yes there are special vehicles for such people as K9 handlers, detectives and others.
Usually the city council gets contracts to buy the cars. So, it might be they just need a new car at the time and whoever gave the lowest bid for it.

  • IS it worth it to purchase a new ford fusion or used ford crown victoria?

I am currently 17 and i have $10,000. I am looking forward in purchasing a car. I can either buy a used 06-09 Ford Crown Victoria P71, 100,000+ miles; and pay it in full or I can finance a new Ford Fusion Hybrid. Since i am going to college, i would rather get a used car and save the rest for later. The thing i am most concerned about is the reliability of both vehicles and the cost to maintain the vehicles. I know the P71 only has 12MPG and the ford fusion has about 39MPG. I drive at least 20 miles a day, so if i did purchase a P71, how often will i have to fuel up? (combination of Highway and city, no heater or A/C on, and a window crack). If i purchase the Fusion Hybrid, how often will i have to fuel up? I am most concerned about the reliability and the cost to maintain the vehicles. Fueling up isn't a problem unless i have to fuel up everyday or every 2 days. I make $700 a month.

I know that you cannot finance a vehicle under the age of 18. If i do finance a fusion hybrid, it will be under my parent's name.IS it worth it to purchase a new ford fusion or used ford crown victoria?
I would choose the crown vic. As far as style or features, its inferior but they are very cheap to fix because of the enormous parts network, and they are pretty reliable. Also, it is generally reliable from my understanding. Financing a Ford Fusion would be a burden that you would have to keep paying for years, and its' about $18,000 more, and thats not even including tax or options. The Fusion also isn't as large. The Crown Victoria is a good, solid, dependable car that will serve it's basic function [driving] for just about as long as you need it to, and if something should go wrong, it'll be cheap and easy to fix. From what you've said are your requirements of a car, it makes sense to buy it. Good Luck!IS it worth it to purchase a new ford fusion or used ford crown victoria?
I suggest you buy a used car but the Ford Crown Victoria is not good for a college student. You would be better off with a smaller more fuel efficient vehicle The car will have to be purchased by your parents as a minor can not enter into a legal contract until they reach 18. Good LuckIS it worth it to purchase a new ford fusion or used ford crown victoria?
    I know the P71 only has 12MPG

    --

    ?

Never seen them get that low...but, if you drive five minutes and about three blocks to work, it could happen.

I'd be more worried about carrying full coverage on a Fusion that is financed over a paid in full Crown Vic (liability is enough) than fueling up.

While I have nothing against newer Panther cars, per se, I'd prefer a 96-97 model. Heavier duty everything. I think the newer Vics have trans issues to some extent, but I'd take them over ANYTHING with a sideways engine and hybrid gear stuffed under the hood as well.

Is 150k miles still ok for a used Crown Victoria?

I want to buy a 1992 Crown Victoria in very good condition, with no defects or anything and 150k miles. Will I be able to drive this car for another year or two before I get a new one? Or is it getting too old?Is 150k miles still ok for a used Crown Victoria?
yes its okay just take care of the engine :)Is 150k miles still ok for a used Crown Victoria?
If it was maintained properly and wasnt driven hard or dogged out, it should be fine, but just in case the maintence has not been kept up, first thing i would do is get the transmission fluid %26amp; filter changed because alot of people dont do that and that must be done at about every 20-30k miles, that would help the transmission last longer because the old fluid in it is most likely burned dry which causes transmission failure, next, have all the belts and hoses checked and replaced if needed, even the timing belt if it has one, get a fresh tune up with new spark plugs and wires, and also replace the coolant with fresh coolant, you may need new brakes and rotors and maybe new front cv axle joints, and then the all popular oil change, that should help make the car last a few more years. Is 150k miles still ok for a used Crown Victoria?
Yes,i've seen them with over 600,000 miles on them.
